Trigger Point (2)

Watched on TVNZ+. Season 2, 6 episodes.

Rating: 3.5/5

Lana Washington is back in the job, having spent six months in Estonia, training Ukrainian explosives experts on how to disable bombs. Not only is Lana back at work, but she is giving a formal speech about what it takes to be an explosives officer, or “expo” – and then a power station goes boom.

At the power station, there are two extra bombs on the gate, so nobody can get inside to douse the main fire that has been set by some sort of insider who has also disabled the alarm. (The fire service decides simply to cut a hole in the wire fence a little distance away, which suggests that the criminal mastermind planning this has not quite thought things through.) Each bomb is attached to a massive yellow Danger of Death sign. Poetic?

There’s one thing you can guarantee with a program like this – there are going to be plenty of edge of seat moments, and occasionally a bit of gore. This series, however, has a LOT of gore (explosive neck collar that explodes – tick. Bomb inside crash helmet on someone’s head that explodes – tick).

The story-line is reasonable (death to filthy capitalists) initially, but then the plot gets convoluted. And it has its fair share of holes. But there’s lots of action and lots of running up stairs . . . .
